gyaku
the opposite; the other way round, reverse
Often 'gyaku ni' (actually, on the contrary) to flip what was just said.
gyaku da yo, migi ja nakute hidari.
Other way round, it's left, not right.

gyaku desu yo, migi ja nakute hidari desu.

hantai
against, opposition; opposite
Two uses: being against something (hantai suru), and the opposite side or direction.
Hantai gawa = the other side; for 'the reverse', gyaku is more natural.
kekkon, oya ni hantai sareta.

Often said of a decision that turned out well: X shite seikai datta.
Called out in quizzes: Seikai! (Correct!).
