Mix-ups Omoitsuku (think up) gets mixed with omoidasu (remember); omoikomu is always a mistaken belief.

The thing noticed takes ni: 'Machigai ni kizuita' (I noticed the mistake).
Also written 気づく; ki ga tsuku means the same.

For an idea popping into your head: 'Ii koto omoitsuita!' (I've got a great idea!).
Omoidasu (remember) sounds close: omoitsuku is a new thought, omoidasu an old one.

Common in 'yosou yori' (than expected), 'yosou doori' (as expected) and 'yosou gai' (unexpected).
Also yosou suru (predict, guess), as with scores or results.

Usually about a belief that turns out to be wrong.
The noun omoikomi means a mistaken belief or preconception.
kyou wa yasumi da to omoikondeta.
I was sure today was a day off.
